Beaconsgate Boar Hunt

Sunday December 15th, 2019
El Cerrito, California

The leaves begin to turn, the wind begins to blow, Winter is coming, and that means it’s time for the Annual Beaconsgate Boar Hunt and Feast sponsored by the Province of the Mists! We will be at our traditional site, Camp Herms. The site is “discretely wet”, so please decant and take any containers with you; we cannot leave them on-site. Boar Hunt is a fighting activity. A “Boar” is played by a fighter armed with two maces. Hunters are fighters armed only with spears, and “hounds” are fighters armed with daggers. There are also unarmored “dogs”, who seek out the boars and bark when they are discovered -- this can be a great role for a mature child accompanied by a responsible adult or for a childlike adult accompanied by a responsible child. There will be a corresponding “Stag Hunt” for rapier fighters (a fighter armed with two swards) and small rapier prize tourney sponsored by the De Guzmans. Battles will be held rain or shine. Please plan to bring something for your lunch if you are coming on site early. We will have many activities within the hall — dancing, singing, music, games — for non-fighters and tired fighters, so bring musical instruments, dancing shoes, and board games. Or take a break from running around the hillside to participate in our 2nd annual Boars Hunt Iron Artisan Competition! It takes quick wits, nimble fingers and creativity. If you are up to the challenge, you will receive a bag full of materials; three hours later, you will place the masterpiece you have created from those materials on display for the populace vote! The winner will be announced during a break in the feast, and honor (and a prize) granted to the First Boars Hunt Iron Artisan! Participants are encouraged to bring and share tools and basic supplies that they believe they may want to use. Feast ticket required for evening (contact province seneschal, Ginevra Lorenzo (Lenore Rossini), at Ginevra.lorenzo@westkingdom.org): No offboard seating will be available.
