Newcomers (Kodiak, AK)

Due to a double booking at St. James, we had to change sites and event times. We will not be having an after-event bbq. We will be meeting up at Noodles for dinner after the event instead.

The Shire of Pavlok Gorod cordially invites you to our twentieth annual Newcomers Event! This year’s theme is a hero’s journey. Rapier: there will be a rapier tournament. Armor inspection will be at 9AM. Fighting begins at 10 AM. 

Feast: Feast is potluck. Please bring ingredients list. Puddle Pirate Cove Household will bring the main course. Modern last names beginning A-L please bring your favorite Medieval/Renaissance side dish to share. Modern last names beginning M-Z please bring your favorite Medieval/Renaissance dessert to share. PLEASE NOTE: NO ORANGES or SHELLFISH on site due to severe allergies. If you have allergies, please let the event steward know immediately! 

Arts and Sciences display: Whatever you are working on in any mode. Your display piece can be complete or a work in progress. 

Arts and Sciences Competition: Your SCA hero in any mode. Classes: Oerthan Bingo Fun and Games Historical games. Bardic.

Silent Auction: There will be a silent auction to support future events in Pavlok Gorod. Donations for the silent auction will joyfully be accepted. 

We will be meeting up at Noodles for dinner after the event. 

Lodging for off-island cousins: Limited lodging, local transportation, and hospitality will be joyfully provided to off island guests in the homes of our populace. Please contact the seneschal at mairghread@westkingdom.org as soon as possible with your travel plans.

Written Directions to Site:  

From the Kodiak Benny Benson State Airport Turn right onto Rezanof Dr W for 5.9 miles. Then Turn right onto E Rezanof Dr. for 0.2 miles. Then Turn right onto E Rezanof Dr.
for 0.5 miles. Turn left onto Egan Way for 0.2 miles. The library will be on the left.

Site Accessibility:   Wheelchair Accessible, Electrical Outlets, Sidewalks, Close / Handicap Parking, Cell Phone Reception

Terrain Description:   The Library parking lot is paved and in good condition. The sidewalks are paved and in good condition. In case we have ice and/or snow they should have ice melt applied for the event. The event is inside the Library with wheelchair accessible doors and bathrooms. The event will be held in the multi-purpose room and then the craft room..

Bodies of Water on/near Site:   There are no bodies of water in the immediate vicinity of the Library but is located less than a mile from the Pacific Ocean and is visible from the Library parking lot.

Insects or wild animals to be aware of on/ near site:  Mosquitos could still be be a nuisance, depending on the outside ambient temperature. Please take proper precautions. Bears are always a concern on Kodiak island and special care should be taken in the early morning, the late evening hours, when traversing Kodiak trails or out in the woods, or disposing of trash. Please be sure to make lots of noise to alert the bears to your presence and keep a very healthy distance. Do not attempt to feed or pet. They move very quickly and are dangerous. Deer are out in the early morning and late evening so special care should be taken when driving on our roads during these times. It is very easy to come upon deer in the road without notice. Please keep a healthy distance and do not attempt to feed or pet. Please also be aware that inclement weather is always a concern on Kodiak island both for driving our roads and traveling to and from. Dense fog, low visibility, heavy rain, very icy conditions, and even blizzard conditions are a normal part of the Kodiak climate. Extra precautions should be taken when driving during these times and be prepared for wildlife in the road unexpectedly during these times.
