Announcement from the Disaster Relief Coordinator and West Kingdom Constable,
"COMBINED FIRE AND POWER OUTAGE CONCERNS:
As fires and power outages are happening simultaneously in our kingdom in areas we know we have members and participants, we urge you to be ready for emergency situations.
BE AWARE: Residents in power outage areas are already missing evacuation orders in some spots. Please stay aware of your surroundings and plan multiple escape routes in case you have no power or GPS access. Marking routes on paper maps and putting them in your vehicle now insures they will be there when you need them.
EVACUATIONS:
If you are in an immediate evacuation zone please don’t wait to evacuate. Your life is more important than possessions. If you need help evacuating please ask. Many SCA people have trucks capable of pulling trailers for animals for example. That being said, please do not enter areas under evacuation orders if not permitted by emergency service personnel as that can cause additional problems.
If you are in an evacuation warning zone, get ready. This fire is moving rapidly and being ready to evacuate when necessary can save your life.
OUTAGES:
If you are in an outage zone, and need to use fire for heat or food preparation, please remember to use heightened fire safety precautions. If you are in an outage area and require power for medical devices, please go to an evacuation center or other safe resource location.
CELL TOWERS:
As power gets taken down some cell towers stop working. Some cell towers are already powered down and so some people may not have service to receive alerts, notices, or evacuation orders.
CHECK IN:
Please mark yourself safe in social media apps if you are safe. Please also check in on Kingdom or Principality pages if you are in an affected area and able to. Please check in with people if possible and safe to do so.

IMPORTANT WORDS FROM OUR DISASTER RELIEF COORDINATOR (Fall 2018)
"Please note some terminology: Evacuation does not mean they’ve lost everything. They are just displaced for now. Destroyed homes mean they will need to find a new place but there will eventually be federal assistance plus their insurance will kick in. Red Cross will help with immediate and grant vouchers. That will help while we are in process of gathering funds. It will take a long time and it gets very frustrating dealing with all the red tape so those of us not affected can best serve being a sounding board for them, encouragers and as needed support in ways they will let us know as they know. As we just experienced with the hurricanes back east this year, there will be many assistance programs for people to plug into including employment assistance for those who’ve also lost jobs.
We don’t want to overwhelm those going thru this trauma. Those who’ve lost a lot know we are here for them , but remember to also give them space to grieve. As you know of folks in need or are in need, you can email me to help maintain confidentiality of those involved. That said... I love you all for wanting to help! This is where the West does things best-helping each other during a crisis!
