Newcomers of the lifeblood of our society and this event is designed to welcome and honor them!
Heavy lists will be one tournament with two categories of victory. Less than two years, and War Leader. There will be a melee element that potential War Leader must participate in. The format of the lists will be determined by turnout. The Champion will receive the title of War Leader of Southern Shores along with some spiffy regalia and a prize!
Rapier lists will also be one tournament with three categories of victory. Less than two years and Defender of Southern Shores. Reduced armor experiment kit will be allowed. The Champion will receive the title of Defender of Southern Shores along with some spiffy regalia and a prize!
Prizes will be given to the Winners!
There will also be a variety of Arts and Sciences displays and discussions, we hope to have the final draft on the Southern Shores newcomers Facebook page late February or early March.
No site fee (but donations are welcome)! So, if you have friends who want to know what the SCA is all about– bring them! If you just want to spend a day in the park with friends– bring yourself! Hope to see you there!
Parking is limited to street parking. Please carpool if possible. Dogs are allowed on leash. “Sport equipment only”, no dangerous implements. The park has bathrooms and the grass is relatively well-kept. No gopher holes.
Directions to Site: From the North: Take 880 South to San Jose. Shortly after 880 South becomes CA-17 South use the right lane to take the Hamilton Ave. Exit. Some Map programs will tell you to next turn right on Almarida Dr. which will take you to the south side of the park near the tennis courts, We will be on the north side of the park, nearer to Westfield Dr. so you may wish to turn right on North Central Avenue which will take you to Westfield Dr. the north boundary of the park and parking on Westfield Dr will be the closest to the part of the park where we will be.
From the Peninsula: Take 280 South to San Jose. Take Exit 6 to Winchester Blvd. Turn right onto Winchester. Turn left at Westfield Dr. parking on Westfield Dr will be the closest to the part of the park where we will be.
From the south: Take your best route to Hwy 280 North in San Jose. Use the right 2 lanes for Exit 5B CA-17 South use either lane to take the CA-17 South use the right lane to take the Hamilton Ave. Exit.
