From the Chatelaine:

Welcome to the Current Middle Ages! The Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) is a non-profit educational organization that recreates the era between the fall of Rome until the death of Elizabeth I within reason and with modern conveniences.  We strive to study and practice such activites as medieval martial arts, painting, cooking, clothing, music, dance, and all manner of trade skills and period recreation.  Essentially, if it was a part of daily life, we are interested in it!

We have many Events that vary from one day up to two weeks. An Event can be anything from  Collegium (a classroom type of event where the fruits of our research are shared with members of the society, with subjects for both children and adults), to events focused on dance or music, or a Tournament, such as those that decide the next reigning Royalty through trial by heavy combat.

Our combat is defined in two ways; heavy combat (full armor generally made from leather and/or metal that mimic period armor, or well covered modern compromises), and rapier (think renaissance fencing with lighter armor). To participate in a Western Crown/Coronet heavy fighting list, the fighter and consort must be a member of the SCA and have a valid heavy fighter authorization card. Both men and women are eligible to fight. Anyone may fight in any other tournament other than Crown/Coronet as long as the participant has a valid fighter authorization card. We also have children's fighting activities that use specially developed armor and weapons that are safe for the children to use under strict parental supervision.
